Toy Story 3 Trailer
Toy Story 3 Trailer #2 in HD
Trailer Park Movies | MySpace Video
Since we've been checking out videos this week, I thought I'd post the new Toy Story 3 trailer. It's definitely going to be the worst of the trilogy but it definitely looks really fun. Hopefully it puts a good cap on the series and we can move on.

Harry Potter Super Bowl Ad
Did everyone see Universal's commercial during the Super Bowl last night? Here it is, featuring the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
I'm still waiting for someone to upload Drew Brees' "Goin to Disney World" spot from after the game.

Evil Luxo Jr.
If you're interested in something hilarious (though slightly disturbing) to start off your Tuesday morning, check out this parody of the Pixar title card that John Frost from the Disney Blog found on College Humor.

Fantasy in the Sky on RCT3
Someone actually took the time to create the Fantasy in the Sky fireworks show on Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. I haven't played an RCT game in an eternity. Where did they get the Cinderella Castle from? Do they have Disney icons for one of the games now? Cause I need to pick that up.

President Obama Records HOP Speech
There is a great video from the White House showing President Obama as he prepares to record his lines for the Hall of Presidents.
Frighteningly, however, it also reveals that neither he nor his staff seems to have any idea what the Hall of Presidents actually is!! Eeek!!!

Michael Jackson Dies
Yahoo (as well as every other news source in the known universe) is reporting that the "King of Pop" Michael Jackson has died at age 50.
Aside from being arguably one of the greatest entertainers of all time, albeit an extremely eccentric one, Jackson was also a noted Disney theme park fan (going as far as building an amusement park of his own at his Peter Pan inspired Neverland Ranch.) He also starred in the short lived Epcot 3-D movie "Captain EO."
The Disney Blog has a few Michael Jackson tributes up including video of "Captain EO" and video of a Jackson 5 visit to Disneyland from the 70's.

ABC to Air News from White House
The Drudge Report is reporting that ABC news will be turned into a platform for the Obama administration to launch it's health care plan on June 24, featuring a live broadcast from the White House. It's Drudge so the story is, of course, going to be skewed but here it is anyway. Personally, I think this all ties into the new Hall of Presidents but maybe I'm just a little crazy.

Movie Review - Up
I finally got a chance to check out Disney-Pixar’s “Up” last night. This was the traditional 2D version, so I can’t comment on 3D, but it was excellent. Don’t read on if you don’t want spoilers.
The film starts off with young Carl Fredrickson meeting his future wife Ellie as the two children discover they share a love of famed explorer Charles Muntz, who is in seclusion in the South American jungle after his findings were questioned by science. What follows is probably the most depressing but also incredibly moving openings in Disney history: a montage of Carl and Ellie’s life as they get married, learn they can not have children (undoubtedly the first miscarriage in Disney film history,) and repeatedly attempt but fail to save enough money to make the trip to Muntz’s South America. Finally Carl decides to surprise Ellie by booking the trip but she dies before he can tell her. Thanks Pixar, now I want to kill myself.
Anyway, things keep getting worse for Carl as the film picks up with an entire modern high-rise being built around his house that he refuses to sell. Then, one day, he assaults a construction worker with his cane and is declared unfit to live alone and committed to a nursing home. This scene also might mark the first appearance of blood in a Pixar movie. In order to avoid the home, Carl inflates thousands of balloons and flies away in his house. A young faux-Boy Scout named Russell tags along after being stuck under Carl’s porch while trying to track a snipe in order to earn his “assisting the elderly” merit badge.
Carl and Russell end up in South America but on the wrong side of the mountain where Ellie always wanted to live so they begin to move the house, encountering a giant colorful bird that Russell names Kevin and a dog named Doug who has a special collar that allows him to speak. Doug is a member of a pack of dogs, all with talking collars, assigned to track a bird like Kevin by none other than Muntz. Muntz thinks that Carl has come to steal his discovery and tries to kill Carl and Russell as well as trap Kevin, who we later learn is a mother bird. This where the action picks up and, of course, Carl saves the day and gets over his “grumpy old man” personality in warming up to Russell and Doug. They end up defeating Muntz (who falls to his death in typical Disney villain fashion) and return to civilization where Carl becomes the father-figure that Russell never had.
The story is heartwarming and I tried not to spoil all of the nuances for those who have not seen it (in particular the specific reason Carl warms up in the end.) Doug and the talking dogs provide most of the comedy and are a highlight of the movie with some classic lines (“I do not like the cone of shame.”)
Disney and Pixar have another classic on their hands with “Up.” It’s an incredibly unique story that has all of the traditional elements of a great children’s movie while also being of a superior quality that appeals to adults…like basically every Pixar movie. It was directed by Pete Doctor, the same guy who directed “Monster’s Inc.” The two films share a common quality that the premise seems incredibly “out there” and you really have no idea what you’re going to see going in but then, when you watch it, it all makes sense and works perfectly.
“Up” isn’t quite as perfect as “Finding Nemo” but it definitely ranks up there with the best Pixar movies (no pun intended.) Go to see this one for sure.
Overall Rating: **** ¼

ABC Upfronts
ABC held their annual "upfront" presentation today to preview their 2009/10 prime time season. I'm covering the upfronts at all the major networks on my personal blog.
Here's today's update on ABC:
Next up on the agenda, the only network that I actually own stock in! That doesn't mean I watch it regularly or anything though.
Summary: "Ugly Betty" moves to Friday for reasons past anyone's understanding, Wednesday has nothing but new shows, thus ensuring one of them will get canceled in time for Lost to come back in the fall, "Scrubs" lives on also for reasons past anyone's understanding.
The Good: "Dancing With the Stars" and the entire Sunday lineup ensure the network is a player regardless of any other goofiness. "V" and "Flash Forward" both sound ambitious and potentially interesting but these kinds of shows are always hit or miss so I'm a little leery to get into one and then find it canceled in a month. Ed O'Neill and Julie Bowen star in an Office-style comedy that I'm really not interested in but I love the two of them so I may have to try it.
The Bad: "Ugly Betty" to Friday is a horrible idea on every imaginable level. It should be getting paired with "Dancing" if they don't like it on Friday or let it anchor Wednesday. So many of the new shows sound horrible including two comedies involving the financial crisis. Everybody knows that in bad economic times people flock to escapist shows about rich people. It was "Dallas" in the 80's and, hell, just look at the ridiculous popularity of "The Hills" and its various and sundry spinoffs right now. How the marketing machine never got behind "Dirty Sexy Money" enough to make it a huge hit is completely beyond me.
The Weird: "Scrubs" is back despite airing two series finales in, like, the last three years. Courtney Cox's "Cougar Town" can't possibly be good but might be popular if it could escape the black hole-like Wednesday 9:30 death slot it's in.
Final Thoughts: History shows us that at least one of these new shows is going to be a hit despite the fact that, like Fox, none of these look particularly appealing to me or any large number of people I can fathom. If I were to venture a guess, I'd say that "The Forgotten" has a decent shot, seeing as it's a Jerry Bruckheimer produced crime procedural with a Dancing with the Stars lead in. "V" could work out with good reviews and a decent timeslot when it debuts mid-season (though the fact that they're holding off until mid-season for it might mean they already consider it dead.) "Flash Forward" sounds too high concept for that Thursday night block they put it in but they must have some faith since they bumped "Ugly Betty" for it. Like Fox, nothing on this schedule is going to make or break the network's current position. They don't have a "CSI" to catapult them to the top but nothing is going to hurt the popularity of Dancing, Grey's, Lost, Desperate, etc.

Disney Joins Hulu
Broadcasting & Cable is reporting that the Disney family of television stations will join Hulu. This is excellent news for fans of Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, and other ABC shows, as well as people like me who have never been able to get ABC.com's player to work properly.
